Horse-drawn carriages may no longer be a part of the iconic New York landscape in 2014. Advocacy groups like PETA who have consistently petitioned against the industry may soon get their wish because NYC Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio wants to ban the long-standing Central Park tradition, calling it “inhumane.” He offers to trade the horse-drawn carriages with antique-style electric cars, which I think, is just as aesthetically stunning.
I certainly understand the mayor’s concerns for the horses but I will miss seeing those majestic creatures parade around Central Park if this ban goes into effect in the new year. However, that permeating barnyard stench, I can definitely do without.
De Blasio is set to take office Jan. 1, 2014. Do you agree with him, should horse-drawn carriages be outlawed in NYC?
