Nat King Cole just captures the wonders of Christmas with his eloquent rendition of “Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire.” He has such a way about him, I could listen to him all winter long, sigh…
One of my fondest memories as a child is walking on 5th avenue with my mother and having her buy me a toasty bag of roasted chestnuts from a street vendor. It was such a small gesture but there was just something magical about that moment, it just felt like Christmas. I hardly see vendors selling these seasonal treats anymore, not even around the holidays.
Just curious, do you roast or boil your chestnuts? My family usually scores the shells with a paring knife then boil them. We find that method makes them much easier to peel.
