United We Still Stand! |
Commended as the man who predicted 9/11, Rick
Rescorla was a former Army officer who saved nearly 2,700 lives
ten years ago, only to lose his own in the process. However, 9/11 was not
Rescorla’s only heroic deed outside of the Army. He also saved the lives of
hundreds of people during the first attack of the World Trade Center back in
1993.
Stanley, Rescorla was convinced that another attack under Osama Bin Laden’s
command would eventually follow the 1993 bombing of the twin towers. So he took
matters into his own hands and devised a detailed evacuation plan for the employees of Morgan Stanley. On the
morning of Sept.11, 2001, he challenged the instructions of top officials and
implemented his plan, saving the lives of thousands of innocents.
Rescorla’s devotion to service is most likely the
seed that sprouted his extraordinary heroism, a sentiment upheld by millions of
Americans. His life as well as the lives of the countless unsung heroes who
perished that fateful day, deserve to be celebrated forevermore. Fortunately,
the story of Rescorla’s life will be told as an opera entitled “Heart of a
Soldier,” on the eve of the tenth anniversary of the World Trade Center attacks.
most noble heroes.
