At Queen Victoria’s command, large amounts of food were given to the poor from Windsor castle each christmas day. The provisions included a half-a-ton of pudding, a ton of bread, vast quantities of beef and potatoes, tons of coal, thousands of blankets and hundreds of cloaks.
