There isn’t anything more inviting than soft, touchable, kissable skin. But the winter elements has a way of stripping all the moisture from our skin, leaving it dry — dull and flaky.
According to Cherie Ditre, an assistant professor of dermatology at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, “Chilly temperatures, cold winds, low humidity, and dry indoor heat (particularly the forced-air type) cause water to evaporate from the skin because there is more water in your skin than in the air.”
There are a myriad of products on the market to ward off dry winter skin and I’m sure you’ve tried most of them but what works for me is relatively simple. To keep my skin soft, I apply moisturizer while my skin is still damp from the shower. I’ve seen a noticeable difference since I’ve implemented this little method.
Also, after watching one-too-many episodes of “Sex and the City,” I picked up a skin care tip from Carrie Bradshaw’s (Sarah Jessica Parker) intellectual girlfriend, Miranda (Cynthia Nixon). From time-to-time, I slather vaseline on my hands and place them in a pair of toasty mittens for about 15-30 minutes — and voila! perfectly moisterized skin. Who says you can’t learn anything from television.
What’s your daily winter skin care regimen for banishing dry, flaky skin?
