The dog days of summer are here.
Have you ever wondered where that phrase came from? Apparently, the ancient Romans discovered that the hottest days of the year, late July to early August, occurred in conjunction with Sirius, the dog star- in the same part in the sky as the sun. As the brightest star in the sky, the ancient Romans were convinced that Sirius’ radiance contributed to the heat. And there you have it, the origin of the phrase, “the dog days of summer.” Happy August my darlings!
