The word soul mate has gotten such a bad rap, and deservedly so. The idea that there’s one person in the universe that you are uniquely compatible with is a fantasy of epic proportions. I suspect the pursuit of the ideal mate has prevented many people from making realistic connections (which is quite unfortunate). What’s your definition of soul mates?
I define soul mates as people who share similar tastes and values. But the special part is this: those affinities often appear to be so inherent that they can seem almost alien. And it is that feeling of having a connection that seems too perfect to exist in this blemished world of ours that makes the idea of a soul mate so alluring. The way I see it, romance is just the cherry on top.
I think my mother and my cousin are my soul mates. In retrospect, I’ve always thought that, even when I didn’t know the meaning of the word. Have you ever felt like your soul recognizes another’s?
