A bold red lip is universally flattering, but I think the hue is especially striking on bare face. I use the term bare face loosely here because you may decide you need minimal makeup to execute a bold red lip look. If you’re plagued by pesky blemishes, then, by all means, use a few dabs of concealer to cover them. Your main focus, however, should be on thoroughly cleaning your face and drawing a pair of perfectly arched eyebrows. If you insist on wearing mascara, just make sure to use a light coating. The end goal is to achieve a barely-there makeup look after all.
Prep your lips for lipstick application
If you want a smooth and even application, then you must keep your lips hydrated — especially, if your lipstick has a matte finish. Apply a lip balm before lining your lips, but remember too many swipes will result in color bleeding. You could even go one step further by prepping your lips with a scrub the night before. This extra step will help slough off any dead skin cells. Homemade lip scrubs are incredibly easy to make, see how it’s done below:
Step 1. Take a tiny container and fill it halfway with granulated white sugar. You may use brown sugar as well.
Step 2. Squeeze about five to six drops of lemon or lime juice into the container.
Step 3. Add enough coconut oil to coat the sugar or until it begins to resemble a thick paste.
Step 4. Add a drop or two of your favorite essential oil to the batch. I prefer to use lemon or lavender essential oil (optional).
How to fill in your eyebrows
If your eyes are the windows to your soul, then your eyebrows are the curtains that frame them. It’s essential you shape them in a way that complements your features, not detract from them. See a few tips below on how to achieve your full brow potential.
Step 1. Begin by plucking any errant hairs. Be careful not to over-pluck.
Step 2. Use an eyebrow pencil or pomade to trace subtle lines starting from the beginning of your brows to your arches. Remember your goal is to mimic the look of natural brows, so use slight hand motions to replicate hair strokes.
Step 3. Dip a flat brush into a concealer of your choice and glide it closely beneath your brows. This step will mask any hue that may have been left behind by your brow pencil or pomade. Try to maintain a straight line when using this technique. The following trick will help you do just that: Apply three dots under your brows and connect the line afterward. Simple, right?
Step 4. Use the pads of your fingers or a brush to blend the concealer onto your skin.
